Happy first Friday of December. Hopefully everyone was able to get a few more minutes of sleep this morning. As a reminder, the AEA Office follows APS guidance on snow days and delays.

I am happy to report that our amazing admin, Vi has returned!

Earlier this week, the Elections Committee sent a link to self-nominate for the Virginia Education Association Representative Assembly (VEA-RA).  The annual state meeting will be held in Norfolk, VA, April 16-18, 2026.  This is a great opportunity to give input on VEA's budget for the coming year, and to present and vote on new business that will direct the work of our state affiliate for the coming year.   If you would like more information, please see your building rep, or email president.arlington@leavea.org. Do you know a support professional who deserves recognition?

The VEA Education Support Professional of the Year Award recognizes the contributions that education support professionals make toward their schools, communities and professions. The award is presented to a member of the VEA who demonstrates outstanding accomplishments and reflects the contributions of ESP to public education. The award recipient will receive $250 and be recognized at the VEA Delegate Assembly.

The nomination package must be received by electronic submission via this link, https://vea.link/2026espaward, by 4:30pm, Thursday, January 8, 2026. Paper applications are available upon request.

Scholarship opportunity for Spanish students 12-18 years of age

The 1st Carlos V Education Spanish Contest encourages language learners to submit their creative works, including short stories, short essays, posters, and podcasts. Winners attend a summer session in Spain, as well as a week of professional development for their teachers. Click here for details. Applications are due Jan. 31, 2026
